National environmental funding – UFI; (based on Austrian Environmental Support Act for industrial environmental protection measures)

Since 1993, National environmental funding in Austria has been an important funding instrument at the federal level for Austrian companies and municipalities that invest in environmental and climate protection measures. This is because measures that lead to a reduction in environmental impact are often more expensive than conventional solutions. 

The primary purpose of National environmental funding in Austria is to promote environmental protection measures in companies and municipalities. The purpose of the funding is to achieve environmental effects, such as the reduction of greenhouse gases, especially CO2emissions, the avoidance or reduction of air pollutants, hazardous wastes, or operational noise.

Sub programmes under this funding scheme are: 

• Renewable Energy
• Energy Efficiency
• Industrial waste heat
• Expansion and decarbonization of climate-friendly district heating systems
• Transforming Industry
• Mobility measures
• Resource efficiency
• Other greenhouse gases

Type of Services provided:

• Managing the entire programme from planning to execution on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK).
• Overall project management in line with ISO standards including the management and coordination of team of experts, beneficiaries´ implementation teams coordination as well as coordination with multi-disciplinary team of experts from the Client.
• Technical, economic and environmental appraisal of the submitted projects aimed at improvement of energy efficiency, renewable energy generation, various environmental measures, or climate change adaptation.
• Preparation of regular assessments of the grant applications and submitting them for approval to the Austrian Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK).
• Provision of training and capacity building in subject matters to support administrative and technical capacity building within the Client and beneficiaries.
• Provision of consultancy to the decision-making bodies and stakeholders in matters of energy infrastructure and climate and environmental protection .
• Information and awareness raising among decision-makers in municipalities, companies, and households in order to clarify the opportunities and dangers of climate change.
• Organization of various events on behalf of climate and environmental protection investments, e,g. EU innovation fund information day, Thermal renovation information event, Environmental funding information day, Energy Saving Fair, …
