Energy Audit Programme for the SEMED Region
Various studies (commissioned by the EBRD and other organisations) suggested that the economic market potential for energy and resource efficiency in the EBRD countries of operation (including the SEMED region) ranges between 20% and 40%. Despite this economic potential, a wide range of information gaps, market failures, and policy imperfections still hold back the investments, providing the ground for the EBRD to become involved by blending it’s financing with technical assistance for demonstration and pilot projects.
The technical assistance provided by this programme allowed the EBRD to help its clients identify and realise energy saving opportunities in their own operations, provide targeted training, and assist client management to better prioritise and implement energy efficiency investments.
The overall objective was to enhance competitiveness of corporate enterprises through the optimal use of resources, technology innovation, and the introduction of best practice and improvements to the energy management practices of the client. This promoted market transformation and transition by introducing advanced assessment of optimal resource use and aligning the interest of technology suppliers and end-users.
