EURENI – Promoting Sustainable Digital Finance in the EU

Austria, Estonia, Ukraine, Germany, Switzerland
Deutsche Bundesministerien

The overall objective of the project is to overcome current obstacles in the single countries that lead to the separation of the field of digitalization in the financial sector (crucially represented by FinTech companies) and sustainability through:

  • documenting the current regulatory basis related to sustainable digital finance, comprehensively map stakeholders and describe the most relevant and envisaged used cases,
  • working with key stakeholders in selected European members states with different degrees of preparedness, IT affinity and enabling environments (Estonia, Austria), as well as a neighboring country (Ukraine) – with a high digital talent pool in terms of IT resources but relatively low level of awareness in terms of sustainability (environment, climate change) and sustainable finance,
  • complementing and enriching the findings through dedicated case studies from Germany and from Switzerland (potentially the source for best practices)
  • discussing the findings and recommendations with institutions on the EU level, and
  • disseminating lessons learn through sharing the final consolidated findings including policy recommendation with all stakeholders of the project and their networks in order to multiply the impact.

The incentive for FinTech companies to participate is to learn about the opportunities to engage in the topic of sustainable digital finance to explore respective business cases, thereby contributing to attain environmental goals. In addition, current EU regulation in the area of sustainable finance means that this topic needs to be integrated in the financial world. Through this project, FinTech companies can acquire the knowledge they need for their future businesses.
